Summer-Like Heat Continues, Big Changes Looming

While the cold front on the way won’t bring much in terms of rain, it will bring plenty of cold air.

Happy July 106th! The summer-like highs continue to pelt the Carolinas this afternoon, as 70s and 80s continue their dominance across the states. Record temperatures could come into play to close out the workweek on Friday, where we could be touch-and-go with the 90s south and east of the Metro. 88° is the current record high for Charlotte on October 15th, which is in jeopardy tomorrow.

The good news for fall-lovers is that a strong cold front moves in by the weekend, sending temperatures into a freefall. Afternoon highs near 80° in the Piedmont on Saturday will crash into the 40s waking up on Sunday morning. Frost is possible in the High Country for the second half of the weekend. Rain chances will remain few and far between over the next seven days, but isolated showers are possible Saturday afternoon and evening.

Tonight: Few clouds. Cool. Low: 61°. Wind: Light.

Friday: Hot sunshine. Near-record highs. High: 86°. Wind: S 5-10.

Friday Night: Mostly clear. Low: 66°. Wind: SW 5-10.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with isolated showers. Breezy. High: 80°. Wind: NW 10-20. Gusts: 25+
