LONG VIEW, N.C. — The Long View Police Department is conducting an investigation after an infant died in Catawba County.
According to officials, the Hickory Police Department was called to Frye Regional Medical Center in reference to an infant death on Sunday, Nov. 7. Upon arrival, Hickory police determined the infant had been transported from 24th Street SW, within the Town of Long View, due to a medical emergency.
The Hickory Police Department notified the Long View Police Department. After being notified, investigators with the Long View Police Department and agents with the N.C. SBI conducted a crime scene search of the residence.
On Nov. 10, an autopsy was conducted at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, but an apparent cause of death was not revealed. The final autopsy report is pending the toxicology results, which could take several months for law enforcement to receive.
As required, the Catawba County Department of Social Services (DSS) was notified and is assisting with the investigation.
A complete and thorough investigation is being conducted and all parties involved have cooperated with law enforcement, police said.
The case will remain open pending the results of the final autopsy report.
