CHARLOTTE — A local family is demanding answers after a Charlotte grandmother was hit and killed on Thanksgiving night by someone driving a red SUV. CMPD is still searching for the driver who sped away from the scene.
Police say 59-year-old Cecilia Wallace was trying to cross the street Thanksgiving night to get home near the intersection of Sunset and Beatties Ford Road. Around ten p.m., CMPD received several 911 calls reporting that someone was lying in the middle of the road. Wallace had been struck by a vehicle, and died. The driver took off. Police say the suspect was driving a red, two-door Ford Explorer. Police captured an image from surveillance camera video from the intersection.
Wallace’s family is pleading with the driver of that vehicle to do the right thing and come forward.
“I can understand how maybe that situation would scare someone, but just to leave her? She was just left. People treat dogs better than that,” says Brittany Miller, the victim’s daughter.
“Just turn yourself in, whoever you are,” says Raven Miller, the victim’s daughter.
If you have any information about the driver of the red, Ford Explorer, you’re asked to call CMPD immediately. Wallace’s family has created a fundraiser page to help raise money for burial expenses. That information came be found here. https://www.facebook.com/donate/4686955491394789/
