CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives are investigating a fatal head-on collision in north Charlotte that left the driver of a Chevrolet dead Wednesday night.
Officers responded to the collision shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Reagan Drive.
When officers arrived, they found a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2011 Nissan Versa in the roadway.
The driver of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained, according to a news release.
Detectives say from preliminary investigation they determined the driver of the Chevrolet was heading southwest on Reagan Drive in a reckless manner, crossed the center line, and struck the Nissan head-on.
Police say speeding and failure to use a seatbelt by the driver of the Chevrolet is a contributing factor for this crash.
At this time, detectives say there are no contributing factors on the part of the driver of the Nissan.
The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
