CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One LGBTQ organization says it is ready to forgive rapper DaBaby. It comes after the Charlotte native has faced months of fallout following controversial comments he made at the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami that critics called anti-gay and sexist.
According to TMZ, the CEO of Relationship Unleashed, a nonprofit that advocates for the Black LGBTQ community, says DaBaby has learned a lot since his statement over the summer. The nonprofit educated the rapper about how AIDs and HIV affects people here in Charlotte and says DaBaby’s comments came from a place of ignorance.
They say DaBaby has apologized and understands now, and Relationship Unleashed supports any of his upcoming performances. However, the organization is not as ready to forgive comedian Dave Chappelle. He’s been facing controversy since the release of his latest Netflix special, where he made comments that some have called transphobic. The organization says Chappelle has not shown any empathy and remorse. Chapelle says he’s been uninvited from several film festivals and that Netflix’s co-CEO is the only one who hasn’t “canceled him yet.”
