Original Story (11/9/21):

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was found shot in a vehicle in a north Charlotte gas station parking lot late Monday night, sparking an investigation, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Officers responded to a Shell gas station on Sugar Creek Road around 11:20 p.m. after receiving reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers located a man in a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Lester Acevedo, was transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives gathered information during the investigation that indicates that the victim was shot on Merlane Drive. The victim then pulled into the parking lot of the gas station in the parking lot where he was located by someone who called 9-1-1 for help.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
