CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will host a yard waste bag exchange on Saturday for residents who receive city collection.

Officials say residents will be able to exchange their plastic yard waste bags for kraft paper bags at the free event held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Otts Street.

On May 5th, officials say the City of Charlotte announced that Solid Waste Services would no longer accept plastic bags for yard waste and would no longer provide courtesy collections for residents who still use plastic bags.

Officials say residents who continue to use plastic bags for yard waste could be subject to a minimum fine of $150 per city code.

Residents can also dispose of their yard waste by taking the items in paper bags or reusable containers to one of the four Mecklenburg County full-service recycling centers found here.
