Charlotte FC will honor its soccer player Anton Walkes on Tuesday with a celebration of life memorial service at the Bank of America Stadium.
The 25-year-old defender and midfielder died following a boat accident in Miami on Thursday.
“He was a tremendous son, father, partner and teammate whose joyous approach to life touched everyone he met,” said team owner David Tepper in a statement. “Anton made those around him better people in all areas of life and represented Charlotte F.C. to the highest standard both on and off the pitch.”
The memorial begins at 3 p.m., but supporters can enter the stadium at 2 p.m.

Fans are asked to wear black Charlotte F.C. gear and Newly Minted kits.
The London, England native began his career at 16 years old with Tottenham Hotspur, before going on to play for Portsmouth and Atlanta United FC.
He was selected by Charlotte F.C. in the 2021 MLS Expansion Draft. He made 23 appearances for the club, starting in 21 matches during the club’s inaugural season in 2022.
Zoran Krneta, the Charlotte F.C. sporting director, said the club is “heartbroken” by the loss, describing Walkes as “a truly incredible father, loving person, and outstanding human being.”
“Anton embodied what it means to be a part of Charlotte Football Club and our entire community is grieving over this tragedy,” Krneta said in a statement.
“The impact he made in the locker room and throughout Charlotte will never be forgotten. We are thinking of his lovely family during this time and will support them fully in every way imaginable.”
Gameday stadium protocols and policies will be in place for the memorial, including clear bag policies.
Fans will be responsible for their own parking arrangements. No food or beverages will be sold.
