AVERY CO., N.C. — The Avery County Board of Education voted on Tuesday to implement a mask mandate for all students grades 3rd through 12th effective October 6th, 2021.
School officials say in addition to the mask mandate, teachers will be responsible for making plans to separate students as much as possible during breaks, lunch periods, and other times large groups may gather.
Officials say administrators have also been asked to consider alternative locations within the schools for students to eat during lunches, in order to reduce the amount of students eating in the cafeterias.
The Avery County Board of Education is expected to revisit this process and COVID-19 protocol, as required by law, during their next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 12th at 6 p.m.
